In 2006, Louisiana enacted the Database Security Breach Notification Law (SB205 Act 499), which requires businesses to notify Louisiana residents whose unencrypted personal information has been acquired through a security breach.

In 2019, after hackers attacked government servers, Louisiana’s cybersecurity team completely shut down state servers and was able to protect their information.
The former Governor executed and signed a state of proclamation, outlining cybersecurity emergencies and maintaining direct order within the state.
